Open-Source-Tax-Tooling

Research on open source bookkeeping tools as inputs for US consumer tax software, with a hledger prototype.

DemoFor individual taxpayers

What it does

Research asking whether open source bookkeeping tools can feed US consumer tax software: five tools, hledger among them, are evaluated on APIs, CLIs and file formats, with a report and comparison matrix. A Python adapter around hledger turns a synthetic freelancer CSV into normalised facts. A 2026 internship project: synthetic data only, no tax calculation, forms or filing; not tax advice.

Where it fits on the map

Not on the map: a demo and for individual taxpayers.

The map places maintained projects for a company tax department or a tax authority, without a demo or paid-service flag. Everything else stays on the list with its label.

Similar projects

Of the same kind, for a shared jurisdiction or tax area. Not a ranking.
