OpenFile
Free tax filing tool built on the published code of IRS Direct File.
What it does
A free US tax filing tool forked from the published code of IRS Direct File; run locally, it serves the filing interface at localhost:3000/df/file. It needs Docker and git with submodule support and starts with docker compose. The README makes no guarantees of accuracy and notes that the official Direct File project has been indefinitely suspended since November 2025; CC0 1.0 (public domain).
Licence unknown: we found no licence we could recognise. Check with the maintainers before you reuse the code.
Where it fits on the map
Not on the map: for individual taxpayers.
The map places maintained projects for a company tax department or a tax authority, without a demo or paid-service flag. Everything else stays on the list with its label.
