File a UK corporation tax return from the command line

A small company's figures are final; the return, the accounts and the computation must reach HMRC as iXBRL.

A route to listed tools, not a lesson, and not tax advice: a person decides.

Open it

The steps, at a high level

  1. Put the figures in the tool's YAML file: it builds the CT600 return, FRS 105 micro-entity accounts and the tax computation as iXBRL in HMRC's GovTalk envelope.
  2. Submit to HMRC's test gateway first with HMRC's Local Test Service, then to the live gateway with the company's Government Gateway credentials.
  3. Keep the submission receipt and the generated iXBRL with the working papers.

Check before you rely on it

  • The README scopes the tool to micro-entities under FRS 105; a company outside that scope needs another route.
  • It needs Python 3.11, Java for the test service and gateway credentials; test before live, every year.
  • One person maintains it: read the code path for the boxes you rely on.
